Qasper Personal and Qasper Offline

Overview

Qasper Personal (and Qasper Offline) is a complete Qasper Office application, designed to run on your desktop instead of through a hosted server located elsewhere.

Unless you install one or more of the desktop applications (optional), your browser is all you need to work with Qasper. Other applications may be installed with Qasper Personal. Click here for more information.

For Qasper Personal and Qasper Offline, Qasper uses a Microsoft Access database located on your computer.

If you are looking for installation of Qasper Online Corporate/Workgroup version, click here for technical server-side installation information and requirements.

Qasper Personal differences

Qasper Personal has the following differences from the host-based Qasper Office:

1. Personal performs group scheduling in the Activity Manager (Calendar), but does not support internal user messaging, since there is only one user allowed in Personal. However, the Group Builder can be used to create groups of contacts.

2. Personal is limited to one user.

3. Personal cannot send emails through its web server. Instead, Qasper Synchronization will perform two-way email functions, picking up outgoing emails from Qasper Personal and placing them in your Outlook outbox.

4. Personal doesn't require Administrator log in to access the Administration module. Personal users can set up custom lists, fields or grid columns, and/or to merge contacts.

Qasper Personal and Qasper Offline Office

Run Qasper Personal or Qasper Offline using the latest version of Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Qasper will not run correctly under other browsers.

Typically, to run Qasper Personal or Qasper Offline, select Start on your desktop and click Programs > Qasper > Qasper Personal or Programs > Qasper > Qasper Offline.

The installation program will install the necessary web pages on your computer, along with a very small web server (Cassini) that will run in background and host the Qasper Personal web pages for delivery to your browser,

Your browser will try to connect with Qasper Office at this URL:

http://localhost:85/start.aspx.

If you cannot connect, it may be due to one of the following problems:

1. You do not have Qasper Personal or Qasper Offline properly installed. Go to your Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and uninstall the Qasper products:

  • UltiDev Cassini Web Server Explorer
  • UltiDev Cassini Web Server for ASP.NET 1.1
  • Qasper Personal or Qasper Offline, whichever is installed
  • Qasper Outlook Synchronization (if installed)

For Qasper Personal, reboot your computer, then go to www.Qasper.com and reinstall Qasper Personal. For Qasper Offline, contact your system administrator for installation information.

2. [Applies only to Qasper Personal] You may need to re-register. Qasper should display a message to you to that effect. Click [My Personal Registration] and follow the registration instructions.

3. The Cassini Web Server is not using Port 85, or it is not assigned to a virtual directory named "qasperorganizer".

a. Select Start > Programs > UltiDev > Cassini Web Server > Cassini Web Server Explorer. Ensure it looks like the following. If it doesn't show Qasper Organizer as the application running on Port 85, contact us.

b. Click the Edit button.

c. The setup should look like this:

d. Check the actual URL by running Qasper Personal and viewing the Address in the Address bar of the browser:

Qasper Personal uses this address:

http://localhost:85/start.aspx

Enter that address in your browser:

e. If the address doesn't match the full URL as it should be, you will need to create a new shortcut to the correct address.

f. If you know how to right-click the shortcuts and change the target URL to http://localhost:85/start.aspx, go ahead and do that.

Otherwise, select Start > Programs > Qasper and right click on the Qasper Personal shortcut and select Delete and delete the shortcut.

Also delete the shortcut under "Qasper Organizer" (if there is one there) and the one on your desktop.

g. Create a new shortcut.

From your web browser where the address shows http://localhost:85/start.aspx, drag the Internet Explorer icon beside the address down to the Start button on your desktop and continue dragging to a location on your start menu in the Qasper section.

You can rename the shortcut by right-clicking it and selecting Rename.

h. Do the same to drag to your desktop to create a shortcut there.

4. If you are still unable to get started, contact us at techsupport@qasper.com
